W. Britton Smith, Jr. is the senior partner of Smith and Christensen, LLP. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Smith served as a trial attorney with the National Labor Relations Board. Thereafter, Mr. Smith became a partner in the Raleigh, North Carolina law firm of Crisp, Bolch and Smith, where he developed a practice concentrating in the areas of employment, labor and other unique areas of corporate law affecting electric and telephone Cooperatives. Mr. Smith developed and taught NRECA’s first courses for labor and employment law. In addition, he was the creator and first editor of NRECA’s Personnel Practice Pointers, a newsletter covering human resource topics. Over his career, Mr. Smith has been a frequent speaker at numerous NRECA functions. He is admitted to the North Carolina Bar, all Federal District Courts in North Carolina, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the District of Columbia Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Smith’s practice extends to most areas of law that companies will encounter. He is General Counsel to Randolph Electric Membership Corporation in Asheboro, North Carolina. In addition to his corporate practice, Mr. Smith represents organized and non-organized companies in all aspects of law governing their employment relations. He has negotiated labor agreements in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In addition, Mr. Smith handles Union avoidance, grievances, arbitrations and litigation.
